Statement on marriage from the Constitution of (U.S.A.) Presbyterian Church:
"Any minister asked to marry a man and a woman shall participate with them in instruction
and discussion of the privileges and obligations they will assume in Christian marriage.
If a minister is convinced that Christian commitment and responsibility are lacking, and
that the marriage is not one which offers promise of being blessed by God, he/she shall not
perform the ceremony."
"The church bears responsibility for providing such education and counsel as will prepare for marriage. The state has the authority to dissolve marriage. Recognizing the action of the state as an accomplished fact, the church's responsibility for education and counsel before marriage also extends to any special problems involved in marriage after divorce. Such problems include the competence of persons to enter into and sustain a new marital or familial relationship and to meet obligations to persons involved in the former marriage."
DATE OF WEDDING
Your wedding date can be finalized after the conference with the pastor. Church members have
priority for facilities and time scheduling. It is expected that the pastor will officiate at
all wedddings in the church. If the family desires other clergy to participate, the pastor may
extend the invitation to assist or preside over the service.
PLACE
Weddings will normally be conducted in the church sanctuary. If desired, arrangements may be
made with the pastor to be married at your home or another suitable place.
REHEARSAL
If required, a rehearsal will be conducted in the church prior to the wedding. The entire wedding
party, including the ushers, should attend the rehearsal.
MUSIC
If piano music is desired, the church pianist may be engaged if he or she is available. Other
pianists or soloists may be invited. Arrangements should be made with the wedding coordinator.
DECORATIONS AND FLOWERS
The Directory for Worship states:
"Flowers, decorations, and other appointments should not be unduly elaborate. In all the activities
surrounding the ceremony, excessive expense and ostentation should be avoided."
Flowers may be ordered from any florist who will take the responsibility for setting up arrangements in the church. Candles, unity candle and holders, and candelabras are to be provided by the family.
No rice or birdseed shall be thrown in or around the church.
NO ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES ARE ALLOWED IN THE CHURCH.
NO SMOKING IS PERMITTED IN THE CHURCH.
CAPACITY
You can seat 120 guests in the main part of the sanctuary. Chairs can be put in the back, but must
be returned to the place from which they were taken. Any furniture that is moved is to be put back
in place.
PHOTOGRAPHER
Flash photography during the service is very disruptive. Relatives and friends should not take
pictures during the ceremony. Plan to have your wedding pictures taken in the church after the
service. Video camcorders may be used from fixed positions only.
ATTENDANTS
Two witnesses are required. These are usually the Maid or Matron of Honor and the Best Man.
For formal weddings, the entire wedding party is to be present at the church 30 minutes before the ceremony. Witnesses will sign the marriage certificate immediately following the service.

Persons to be married shall comply with all marriage license requirements of Solano County and
the State of California. The marriage license should be given to the wedding coordinator following
