To help protect the community during the COVID-19 outbreak we must cancel all worship services and gatherings until further notice.

While we are unable to gather in person, small groups of choir members have safely gathered to record hymns and anthems. Click here to hear!

A message from Pastor Henry Sun:

Pastor Henry Sun

June 1, 2020

On Monday May 25, Governor Gavin Newsom issued public guidance for the reopening of churches to live worship.

On Thursday, May 28th, Session met via Zoom to consider Governor Newsom’s guidance under two guiding questions: What will live worship look like when we reconvene? And when do we think we can safely reopen the church for live worship?

As to what worship will look like when we do reconvene, Session is putting in place a plan for worship with masks, social distancing, no live music (including choir) or congregational responses, and no fellowship time when church is over. Session is still working on the mechanics of how communion will be celebrated. Once this plan is complete, it will be shared with the entire church family

As to when worship will reconvene, Session has decided that it would not be safe for us to reopen the church in June, given the guidance that has been provided and the demographics of our congregation. We will meet again on June 22nd and make a determination about reconvening in July at that time.

As always, we welcome your input and feedback! You may email me (pastor(Replace this parenthesis with the @ sign)hpcbenicia.org) or our Church Administrator (info(Replace this parenthesis with the @ sign)hpcbenicia.org) with any comments or observations you would like to share.

And if you have not been able to join us via Zoom, please let me know. We may be able to find places on the church’s campus (in the sanctuary or the library) to make it easier for you to join us via Zoom on Sunday mornings.

The situation around COVID-19 is changing rapidly, almost daily, it seems. By the time you receive this communication, the situation may have changed again. Session’s decisions represent our best attempt to navigate this time with the information that we have. As we continue to monitor the situation, we covet your prayers and your patience as we seek to do what is best for our church family as a whole.

In closing, we want to remind you to be ever mindful of each other, supporting one another in prayer, and reaching out to each whenever and however we can safely do so (phone call, social media, cards or letters, etc). And “may the God of steadfastness and encouragement grant you to live in harmony with one another, in accordance with Christ Jesus, so that together you may with one voice glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ” (Romans 15:5-6).

Love always, and on Session’s behalf,

Pastor Henry Sun

Please join us for worship at 10:00 Sunday morning after the COVID-19 outbreak subsides.
